It was rather simple, actually - Witchy merely wanted to see the extent of Angel's powers. Black magic and 'white' magic seemed fundamentally different after all - black magic generally was used to harm, to enchant; and drew upon energy from your own life or any other possible alternatives. White magic seemed to be a form of magic based on faith and of God's love, or something fancy along those lines.

Witchy wasn't too sure of the details since he never did attempt white magic - but it would be interesting indeed to gain insight on another type of magic he wasn't an expert on. But how to go about it without insulting anyone in some way? Majority of the time, he would end up upsetting someone or angering them, and half the time he didn't even mean it.

(The other half was meant in the name of mischief.)

Catching sight of Angel around the corner, he hurried up to him, careful not to tread on his robes. "Annie! I want to ask you something about your magic!"

Well, he could always go for the straightforward way.

Angel was quite happily walking along by himself. He didnt particualy have anything to do that day which was nice. The idea that he should maybe do some more cooking later was a wonderful thought, his cooking had greatly improved if others said they were nice and ate them with a smile on their faces.
(The thought that they lied just to stop him getting upset or angry didnt cross his mind, or that the smiles were forced.)

His working out of what ingrediants he would need to get and what he had in the kitchen was interupted by Witchy running up to him. "Hey Witchy!"

At hearing the other wanted to know something about his magic he raised an eyebrow, why would he want to know about his sort of magic? From what he understood their types of magic was completely differnt from the other.
"What is it you want to know?"

"Well, um... Like, what is your magic, in details? What do you draw it from, what can you do with it, and all that jazz!" He beamed at Annie, hoping he had got it through without any chances of unwanted reactions. "I'm just interested, um, for the sake of knowledge!"

Well, there was the added advantage of actually harnessing the source of magic and being able to heal himself without gulping down potions that tasted like mud water and months-old scones, but no one had to know that, did they? Witchy looked expectantly at his angel counterpart. "If you want, I can tell you about mine too! Perhaps I can even teach you?"

Well, chances are, angels won't be so willing to use black magic so Witchy wouldn't need to teach Angel. But fair trade was fair trade, and Witchy was a gentleman before a conniving bastard. (Or so he liked to convince himself.)

"Thats... quite a lot to want to know. It's just for knowledge sake?" Angel didnt know wether it would be the best idea to actually mix the two magics together, if Witchy decided he wanted to try something. The two forms of maguc were practically opposite in what they did, but some of the things Angel knew how to do could harm someone if he so wished.

"I'm not so sure about wanting to learn your kind of magic, Witchy, I'm mostly used to my own form of magic. But I would not mind learning about it if you wanted to discuss them." Angel smiled at the other and gestured to some seats. "We should sit down, this may take a while. Our forms of magic are differnt afterall."

"What is it you want you know first then?" He didn't mind talking to the other about magic, seeing as they were one of the few people who could perform it.

He nodded, taking the offer to sit down. It wasn't so smart to be standing about and talking for possibly hours - surely Angel couldn't summarize his magic in a few seconds worth.

"Well..." Witchy frowned, thinking hard. What did he want to know? "How about the source of your magic? For us mages we draw on our life force and use it as energy to power our spell - that's why you see so many blood rituals and sacrifices. If the energy isn't enough, we can draw from other alternative sources - some favor sacrifices, as I said, and I've heard of people applying science and using lightning. Sometimes we can use our target's life force if we can."

"So, what do angels use?" He grinned.

"The source of our magic usually comes from ourselves but not anything like our life force. It's rather hard to explain really, but it comes from differnt sources like faith, love, protection. Thats what my magic is mostly based around." if he was honest with himself, the idea of using magic that used another persons life force to fuel and make his magic stronger repulsed him slightly. Angel could not understand how someone could use magic like that. "When I use my magic it feels all warm inside, expecially around my heart. That's what makes our magic strong, the use of our hearts."

"It's quite hard to explain, it's just something I can do. While I've had to practive a lot I have always been able to use this kind magic so it's just normal for me. You have got to want to protect something and use your own powers for it and use your own feelings aswell." Giving he shrug Angel smiles.

"Why do you need sacrifices? Isn't that a bit..." unable to find a word that would not cause offense Angel settled for a safe "odd?"

Aha, he knew it. It was something along the lines of 'feelings'. Faith, love, protection... Witchy was definitely not into religion, so he couldn't identify with the first factor. As for the remaining two-

He won't think about it.

"So it's all about willpower and love!" He chirped happily. It was a nice type of magic, Witchy would admit, but he was far too used to relying on his own self than feelings. Feelings, especially anger, helped in fueling his magic to a stronger potential - but it was deadly as well should he lose control of it. He rather be safe than sorry.

"Well, think of it like cups of water. If you use your own cup, you have to leave some left for yourself - using all may cause some consequences you don't want, like losing your sight or even dying. So you add on more cups to build it up." He hoped the analogy made sense. "Your cup constantly refills itself though, so if you do quick magic like setting things on fire with a staff, there isn't much of a limit. Mages tend to use sacrifices for cursing and enchantments I guess, generally anything involving circles."

As usual, he was oblivious to any repulsion from Annie's side - it was expected, actually. White and black magic, come on.

Angel nodded, it was a bit about willpower and love but not all about that. "Thats basically what it comes down too but there is more to it than that. You need strength as well. Healing and protecting someone can make you tired, you're physically protecting someone from harm. It's never that bad that you would properly hurt yourself but I have heard of people over doing things and fainting."

"So basically... it's stealing someone elses 'water'" at this Angel did quotation marks with his fingers at the word "so that you protect yourself?"
That was really... quite gruesome and horrid in Angels books.
"How do you even get that work? With my magic I just summon up the inner strength I said about and it helps. It takes a long time to be able to do that as it involves meditation which not everyone has the ability to do." Angel himself at first didnt like sitting round trying to find the inner strength but when he got there it was well worth it.

Stealing? Witchy frowned mentally. He had never thought of it that way, and when phrased like that, it sounded a tad disturbing. But someone had once told him that in life, there were only people who stole and people who are stolen from - and frankly, he rather be the former.

"You can put it that way, I guess," he said. Then the inner strength came in and Witchy frowned. "But Annie," he said gently, unsurely, "not everyone can do that, as you said, and not everyone lives forever." He tried to alleviate the situation. "There are also people who try collaboration circles? You know, two half cups make a full cup, and four quarter cups and so on..."

Perhaps it was time to change the question. "How about what can you do with your magic?" He leant back on his chair, smiling demurely. Hopefully this would not concern sacrifices again.

He did understand that not everyone could do it, some angels don't practive their magic above the needed level to keep it under control; no one wanted to loose control of their magic. 'White' magic, generally known to be used for healing and protection, could be dangerous in untrained hands. Angel nodded at the collaboration circles, while he didnt quite understand what it meant, he knew enough to understand that two halves make a whole.

"What I can do with my magic?" there was a lot Angel could do with his magic to be honest. Crossing his legs Angel thought for a moment. "I'm not much of a fighter to be honest, my skills tend to lie in the 'stand at the side and assist'. But it depends on the situation really." Angel frowned slightly as he tried to think of a situation he would use his magic in.
"Lets say that someone was in trouble and they are in a fight that they are losing. I could help protect them using a charm or blessing to stop attacks from hurting as much, or I could cast a shield around them. Of course the shield is breakable but before it breaks it stops most attacks and spells from harming the person." and he was not going to name all the ways to break a protective shield, there were some things best kept a secret.

"And as I said before I can also do healing. But that needs to be in touching distance of the person being healed, and depending on the injuries depends on how I heal them." Angel shrugged. "I guess my particular area in magic would be defense and not offense."

Witchy had to stop himself from giggling - he was comparing Annie's ability to those of a cleric's in any RPG game and it was amusing him to no end. Not that he played them, of course, he had potions to brew and circles to draw and the RPG games Lenny left lying around his fortress did not look enticing and fun to play. Not at all.

He stifled a chortle and decided to ask, "Are there any limits to your magic, then? Generally my brand of magic cannot revive or resurrect people back to true life (there were necromancers, but Witchy had limits on what he practiced), and the furthest extent of healing that I can attempt is just speeding up the rate of the body's own natural mechanism."

Although Witchy wanted to press Annie on how to break shields, he supposed Annie wouldn't want to elaborate too much on that.

Angel had spotted a rather amused look on Witchy's face. He couldn't understand what the other was finding funny. He hadnt said anything amusing had he? "Is... something funny Witchy?"

"Limits on my magic? Well reviving or reserecting someone is really hard to do. It takes a lot of energy and concentration. If a lot of people died and I was the only one there I have to be careful with what I do or I could collapse myself." Annie clearly remembered the times he had done that and it was not pleasent at all. He usually woke up with a headache that felt like he had been drinking all night and the violent urge to be sick.

"If a persons injuries are severe sometimes you can't wake them up and have to hope they wake up themselves after you help heak their injuries. If they died, the time spent dead also affects how easy it is to bring them back. Usually its not a good idea to try bring someone back if they have been dead for a while. It's just really hard to do and can cause adverse effects on the persons body."

Oh no, Annie must have seen that Witchy was laughing! He quickly covered his mouth, mumbling a quick 'Nothing' and willing his face into one of neutrality. (It didn't work.)

He nodded avidly. What Annie was saying made sense - overexertion and attempting healing after rigor mortis had set in was not advisable. There were places magic could not reach, and subjects it could not broach. What was considered under God's realm and the Devil's play was undeniably out of the question.

"Well, I guess you can tell my magic is more of enchantments, potions and destruction," he grinned at Annie.  "I can enchant, say, a piece of rope to be ten times stronger or a wax candle to last for a while longer. The potions I make, well, it has varying uses. It really depends on what you interpret the ingredients to be. As for the last part..."

Witchy muttered 'Fuego' under his breath, making a small firework burst a few metres away from where they sat. "I'm usually partial to fire, but I can manipulate the energy to give a small shock or freeze items." His eyes danced with glee at the chaos he knew he could cause. "These small spells are like a drop of water, but if I blow the place up, it'll take quite a bit out of me."

"I dont know much about potions to be honest, it just seems like throwing things into a pot and waiting and hoping for the best." He onced tried making a potion to see what it was like, and his potion spat black goo everywhere and then congealed in the kitchen pan he was using. He had to bin the pan and never tried again. He figured it would be safer to stick to just his magic.

Annie then jumped at the small explosion, turning his head to look at it. Fire was never something he was comfortable with. He had seen and healed (to the best of his abilities) a lot of burn wounds; some of which were horrifying to look at and woud take countless healing sessions to heal and still left the person with scars. "How do you manage to freeze people? And I guess that it would have some simular effects to me being able to bind people in place with 'beams of light' as they have been described before." he hoped to keep the conversation away from fire, and also hoped that his discomfort with the subject was not noticable except for the initial shock of jumping at the firework that could be taken for being suprised by the loud noise.

Witchy remembered the first time he brewed a potion - his master had been coaching him from the side, yes, but it had been disastrous. He remembered the day after he sported countless of boils and scalds that his master was not too apt at healing, and the generally better-tasting  healing draught his master had forced him to drink. Sad to say, Witchy never did reach that level of taste.

"No, freezing is really freezing," he supplied. "What you need is the understanding of how it comes about - for example, you have to imagine how the fire burns on the thing you set in on; for ice, you have to imagine it forming, freezing, immobilising the thing you want it to freeze." As usual, he was oblivious to any aversion from the subject of fire on Annie's part.

Annie could not help but imagine someomes blood just freezing in their veins. It was a grumsome image for someone who spent years learning how to heal people. Something like that happening to someone would mean it would be extremely hard too impossible to bring the person back unless the blood was thawed; which led to the question of 'will there be extra water in the veins' and 'how would you melt the ice without further damaging the person'. It was something he did not want to think about.

Discomfort was clearly written across his face now. As well as a look of disgust. It was just... horrible thinking of that.

Contrary to what he previously believed, Witchy was not as dense as he originally thought he was. "Annie?" he asked, worried. "Are you feeling well?"

Perhaps a change of topic was at hand. "Oh, there's still potions!" Witchy brought out a flask and waved it about in a poor attempt at seeming grand. It made him seem more like a flapping chicken holding a flask of bright orange draught. "Making potions are fun! It's like... You have to use your imagination for the ingredients and apply a touch of magic and ta-da, you're done!" He frowned. "Granted, it does end up tasting horrid at times..."
